The following is a rant I went through after seeing someone diss an RP site I got to. A lot of people agreed with it, and it adresses the essence of RPing. Here it is:
...After looking back over the pages of RP I missed last night, I found someone going on about how terrible we are here. Well, now I'm going to say something. Yes, there are some people here who could use a little originality. Yes, some people need to grow up. But that doesn't just include those RPing. It includes those who riddicule those who spend more time RPing than anything else. Some of us, who have been here awhile, take RPing very seriously. Perhaps some a little TOO seriously. RPing is JUST FOR FUN. I've seen plenty of RP sites I hate because they have a posting limit that makes you write a novel-type post which, for me, takes the fun out of it because I, for one, have bad writing days and can only come up with small replies.
A lot of people tend to say that you need to make a post that's, like, a page's worth of writing on Word to make something good. I don't believe this. If you're very good at short and sweet, that's fine. But if you're good at long and sweet, without any useless crap like I've seen a lot of here, then that's good, too. Me? I've got the happy medium. A few paragraphs worth for a starting post, and then it depends on my response for later replies.
Another thing is cruelty to n00bs and people who RP something based off of a show or game. Nowhere in the rules does it say everything has to be original, and there are new people here everyday--people who are terrible at RPing at first. A lot of them get better in time, given the chance, but others don't because they need help but are too afraid to ask. Why are they afraid? Because oldies like me tend to tell them to bug off because they 'aren't worth the time,' and they'll 'never get better.' Well, I don't believe that, and as some of you know, I'm working on a role-playing school, although, right now, I'm at a stand-still due to personal things going on...
...I guess my point is that a lot of people here need to grow up and quit acting like children. Yes, I know some of you out there are, but all of us have a certain level of maturity and we need to act like we're that mature. I'm tired of finding someone spamming my post because it's based off of a game or because it's too long or too short. I RP my way, not anyone else's. And as for what RPing is for...RPing IS fantasy. If everything in an RP WERE based on real life, it would all get very boring very fast. The reason a lot of us RP is TO be something we're not.
...Oh, dear, I've gone on a rant. Well, I at least hope some of you understand what I'm saying. Or typing. Whatever. ...Okay, that's it. ^^; I've gone on long enough. Love and peace!
Please note that it refers to the pages of the site (http://www.gametalk.com/talk/rpgchat) this was posted on. Please give me your feedback, 'cause I wanna know if it wasn't just this site that agreed with it.
